A specific preference is a better guide than a popular gift list.
Listen for an actual preference
Notice what the recipient has clearly said they enjoy or would like. Do not treat a passing remark about an intimate product as an invitation to buy it. When the category is personal, ask directly whether the idea is welcome and whether they would prefer to choose the exact item themselves.
Think about the whole experience
Consider packaging, storage, care, and the support they would need afterward. Check the seller’s terms before promising an exchange or return. If choosing together would be more comfortable, make that part of the gift rather than treating it as a less thoughtful alternative.
Keep appreciation separate from expectations
Explain what made you think of them without suggesting the gift should change their behavior. A personal note, time together, or a familiar favorite may be more suitable than an intimate item. The most important detail is that the gift leaves the recipient free to enjoy, decline, or discuss it honestly.
